What is a Crypto Portfolio Tracker?
A Crypto Portfolio Tracker is a financial tool that allows you to track the performance of your cryptocurrency investments in one place. It helps you:
Monitor Holdings: Record details of your crypto investments, such as the coin name, quantity, purchase price, and current market price.
Calculate Value and Performance: See the current value of your portfolio, total investment, and overall profit or loss based on real-time or manually updated crypto prices.
Assess Gains/Losses: Track individual coin performance to understand which investments are profitable and which are underperforming.
This tool is ideal for crypto investors, whether beginners or experienced, who want to keep a close eye on their portfolio, evaluate their investment strategy, and make informed decisions about buying, selling, or holding cryptocurrencies. It’s particularly useful in the volatile crypto market, where prices can change rapidly.
How to Use the Crypto Portfolio Tracker Tool
Here’s a step-by-step guide to using the form shown in the image:
Add Your First Crypto Holding
Locate the Table: Under the “Crypto Holdings” section, find the table with columns for “Coin,” “Quantity,” “Buy Price (USD),” “Current Price (USD),” “Value (USD),” “Profit/Loss (USD),” and “Remove.” It already has example entries for “BTC,” “ETH,” and “HIVE,” each with quantity “1” and other fields as “0.”
Update the Entry:Coin: Replace “BTC” with the name or ticker of your cryptocurrency (e.g., keep “BTC” for Bitcoin or change to “ADA” for Cardano).
Quantity: Enter the number of coins you own. For example, change “1” to “0.5” if you own 0.5 BTC.
Buy Price (USD): Input the price per coin at which you bought it. For example, change “0” to “45000” if you bought BTC at $45,000 per coin.
Current Price (USD): Enter the current market price of the coin. For example, change “0” to “50000” if BTC is currently $50,000. The tool may auto-update this if it fetches real-time prices, as noted.
Purpose: The tool automatically calculates the “Value (USD)” (quantity × current price, e.g., 0.5 × 50000 = $25,000) and “Profit/Loss (USD)” (value - total buy price, e.g., $25,000 - (0.5 × 45000) = $2,500).
Add More Crypto Holdings
Click Add Coin: Below the table, find the green “+ Add Coin” button and click it to add a new row.
Enter Additional Holdings: A new row will appear. Fill in the details for each additional cryptocurrency:
Coin: Input the name or ticker (e.g., “ETH” for Ethereum).
Quantity: Enter the number of coins (e.g., “10”).
Buy Price (USD): Input the purchase price (e.g., “3000”).
Current Price (USD): Enter the current price (e.g., “3200”).
Repeat as Needed: Continue adding all your crypto holdings. The tool will calculate the value and profit/loss for each entry.
Purpose: This allows you to track your entire crypto portfolio in one place.
Remove Unnecessary Entries
Use the Remove Button: If you don’t need a row (e.g., the “HIVE” entry if you don’t own it), click the red “X” in the “Remove” column to delete it. Purpose: This keeps your portfolio list accurate and focused on your actual holdings.
View Your Portfolio Summary
Check the Totals: Below the table, the summary section shows three key metrics:
Total Investment: The total amount you invested (quantity × buy price for all coins, e.g., (0.5 × 45000) + (10 × 3000) = $52,500).
Current Portfolio Value: The total value based on current prices (quantity × current price for all coins, e.g., (0.5 × 50000) + (10 × 3200) = $57,000).
Total Profit/Loss: The overall gain or loss (current value - total investment, e.g., $57,000 - $52,500 = $4,500).
Purpose: This gives you a clear overview of your crypto portfolio’s performance and profitability.
Analyze and Adjust
Review Performance: Look at the profit/loss for each coin to identify winners and losers. For example, if BTC shows a $2,500 profit but ETH only $200, you might evaluate your holdings.
Update Current Prices: If the tool doesn’t fetch real-time prices (despite the “updated in real-time” note), manually update the current price to reflect market changes.
Make Decisions: Use the data to decide whether to hold, sell, or buy more coins based on performance and market trends.
Track Regularly
Update Prices: Revisit the tool daily or weekly to check current prices, especially given crypto’s volatility.
Add or Remove Coins: As you buy or sell cryptocurrencies, update the tracker to keep it current.
